Hmmm, so in pure EV it's only giving you 100bhp.....not much ooomph then!!!

It’s the only way to get a heavy vehicle anywhere near the claimed EV only distance….
We tried the petrol hybrid Velar when the wife was looking to swap her current Velar at the time and we also thought that driving in petrol mode only was awful. The car felt slow and heavy without the battery back up to take it up to the full 400 bhp. EV only would just about get her to the office but with no way to recharge it and so having to use petrol for the return trip, it kinda felt pointless. We opted then to go for the diesel MHEV as it felt lively and way more fuel efficient as we are so used to driving diesel vehicles. But then my last petrol experience was my 1986 twinned fuel tanked V8 110 that you could blow through both tanks in a weekend….. |

Nope - but then it's a hybrid for a reason! The only time we ever use the full EV mode is on the 9 mile trip to work and back which is mostly 20mph roads now, so it doesn't really matter if its 100 BHP or 1000 BHP! |

If you are worried about oomph keep it in Hybrid mode. It runs by default on the electric motor, kicking in the ICE only when you are accelerating hard or climbing a steep hill. 95% of my journeys I run using electric and I've never felt like the car has been at all underpowered; it may only have 100Bhp but the torque is significant and instant with the electric motor. Thats why if you are running the ICE and you put your foot to the floor the electric motor instantly kicks in to deliver the torque for acceleration, even if you have it in Save mode. Thank you for all the advice and good to know that short distances can fully cope on EV and that anything longer (such as my 30mile commute a few times a week) are best suited to hybrid.

Agree.
The BMW weighs in at 300kg more than the Defender and has circa 118hp electric motor. Its not quick but then again its not slow. It leaves most ICE vehicles away from the lights in the key average 0-30mph dash. However where you do notice it, is on hills at speed (60-70mph) and the engine MAY kick in to provide a bit more oomph, which you can not feel (however the blue will change to white on the dash = ICE). You can in the BMW go to 40% power (overall of the 395hp on tap) with pure EV mode (normal hybrid is 30%). |

Does the p400e use the gears? My RR does which I wasn’t expecting and makes full EV surprisingly sufficient at any speed. If you floor it you can feel it moving through the gears, sensible high speed overtakes on the motorway can easily be done without the engine kicking in. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Yes it does - so you also get 4x4 in full EV mode.
