Curious to know whether there is actually an AC and non-AC slam panel?!
And what are the differences between them if there are?! Cheers |

That’s for the bonnet cable to mount and I think it was a security “update”

Ah so the AC version isn't wider to accommodate the sticky out nose/grille then!?!

The panel in those pictures looks very similar to my 2005 TD5 aircon.

Maybe visible in the 3rd picture, but there are thick washers between the mudguard and the slam panel on the Puma with AC. There are no washers on the 1988 model without AC. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Yes, thick washers on my TD5, I don't know their purpose but they're there.

Thick washers = LR's build tolerance adjustment

^^ hahaa….Me too wondered, especially since there are no washers where the mudguards attach to the chassis. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

The thick washers came when Land Rover rammed the inter cooler mounts in between the slam panel and the wings in 1998, without redesigning the slam panel, causing the wings to splay outwards at the top. What they really shouldve done was to fit the washers on the lower mounts to level the wings up again instead of hoping no-one would notice the droopy wings from the front.
Answer to original question is same slam panel used AC or non AC. Just addition of two small tab brackets on inner face of wings to accommodate the AC nose |
