United Kingdom 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Corris Grey
Had mine fitted for a couple of months, nice and tight fit when taking on and off sometimes the two lug pins are a little tight to pull out. I have noticed that my indicators dont seem to cancel very well on my 2015 HT since fitting the quick release boss.
It Is however a nice piece of engineering and I am very pleased with it Very Happy 2015 HT XS 90

Just wondering if Optimill has had the device tested and approved for safety and what indications they give that it has been approved by various bodies as being safe., some of the comments above are worrying, loose pins, rattles. A snap off steering device should not have any of those issues and the fact that some have should give cause for concern.

The other thing that should worry purchasers of this product and you should ask why, is that Optimill appear to have taken off the product from its sales and web site.

I have a Snap Off system fitted, these units have been sold in their tens of thousands without any problems, and to be honest it looks like Optimill have copied Snap Off’s design to a certain extent.

The main difference between Optimill and Snap Off is this:
The Snap off quick release Hub features an innovative design which is self-adjusting so no play in the mechanism, which is often the case with conventional spline type designs.

Snap Off units have these safety notices.

I've tried to get hold of Optimill, sent a few emails now - they don't have a phone number advertised Shocked

When I purchased it at Kelmarsh show the chap who sold it to me said it's been approved by various body's including VOSA and even some insurance companies will give a discount if fitted.

My wife is making a 3 hour journey in it next week I'm now starting to think I should remove it Shocked 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

When I went to order mine a couple of months ago, 48 spline were no longer on the website but the 36 spline one was.. I ordered one from LRDS instead then a week or so later it was back on the Optimal website... maybe they remove them when they are out of stock? 1993 200Tdi Defender 90

A couple of weeks ago i decided to do some further upgrades to the security of my 90. One of the upgrades was rather minor and inexpensive but the other was to replace the OEM steering wheel and fit a QR boss and Swivel lock. To be honest I don't feel the urge to replace the OEM steering for aesthetic reasons but purely for security reasons, it was the swivel lock that really attracted me to the idea. I was on the point of ordering an Optimill QR boss and Swivel Lock when this post popped up.

I now have serious doubts about these particular products and don't feel inclined to spend nearly £500 on a set up that is not perfect. A number of posts have made comment about the fact that the QR boss is extremely well engineered - by well engineered I guess they mean that it looks good, but for me a well engineered product is something that not only looks good but is well designed, it does the job it was designed for and is safe. The fact that some have reported that it rattles, that the release levers reflect onto the windscreen and questions over certification and therefore safety have now put my latest security project on hold.

I didn't want to go down the Disklok route but this is looking like the better option at the moment. Defender 90XS SW

I've had both the Snap Off and the Optimal quick release.

Personally I prefer the Optimall one by far as my Snap Off rattled whilst the Optimall one doesn't. The wheel is in a better position using the Optimall boss as it's slimmer so using the indicators is much easier as the wheel is in a normal position. I have normal length fingers by the way Smile

The Optimall one is a very snug precise fit and I have had to lube it to make attaching the wheel easier.

Absolutely no problems with my Optimill one, nothing slack or rattly. It's been off and on hundreds of times and shows no wear or marks at all.
