![]() Click image to enlarge My 90HT was a works vehicle for Southern Water in a previous life. I think this is a tracker unit under the drivers seat!! Can anyone confirm???? Any suggestions for an auto electrician in the Hampshire area, Iām not going to try and remove this myself. Can I just make out a coax cable? Is it a radio amplifier as in communications for SW Water engineers?
In any case, it looks like it has been installed by someone who is less neat than they could be. Hope you get it sorted. Good luck š |

No, there is nothing like that. There seems to be a power lead to the switch for the overhead yellow beacon lamps (now removed).
I too thought it was the ECU, but there is a label for T-Mobile, and the yellow label says the customer is Southern Water. Would like to get it all removed if possible. |

Good point, there was also shortwave radio wiring through the cab and a Parrot phone kit. Maybe this is the power amplifier for the comms. |

Given it says T-MOBILE and one of the coax cables could be for GSM antenna, I'd say it's a fleet management telematics unit, part of which would a tracking functionality.
But that doesn't mean you're still being tracked. Lots of wires though. |

In my company they fit monitors that track driving behaviour, acceleration deceleration etc. these things are getting much more sophisticated. They download the data regularly and you get scored on your driving, or your right to drive a vehicle gets taken away if you have too poor a score

That's horrible. Strictly forbidden in Gemany.

I'm guessing that if I'm careful I'm going to be able to idenify all the connecting wires. Will start by unplugging the box!!!! Many thanks for all the support. |

It's a multinational (oil industry) and they will follow local legislation. Fortunately for them I suppose most oil is found in developing nations where there are fewer rules. Germany: not much oil..
They started introducing it on mobile phones including when renting a car on visits. It's a real pain, for instance recently I was driving around in Saudi and motorway exits have a 50km/hr speed limited which means "the thing" goes bananas as you exit as you can hardly slow down to 50 when you exit. Needless to say I uninstalled the app and told them to stick it. Reaching that point in my career thank god (boomer etc) |

TR - I thought that it may have been an IVMS system where you plug your blue personal issue 'key' into the slot in the dash to activate the system and allow you to start the vehicle, similar to the one in my pick up when I was working in Saudi.
Yep, the geo fencing in a vehicle fitted with IVMS is a pain and in certain situations can become a hazard. Some bright spark decided to set an 80kph speed limit between Khobar and the field, which resulted in 3 or 4 of our vehicles being rear ended by other cars driving at 150kph... Jim |
