Disco 2 engine swap to a defender td5
Hi wizards!

Have a very high milage defender td5 and a very low milage disco 2 and want to swap engines.
If i do the swap incl D2 ecu it would start right up?
Is the harness in the disco the same as defender?
Both are NNN ecu

Are they both the same (10p/15p), if so you could just disconnect swap and reconnect. All you would need to do is program the new injectors in and maybe do something like the wastegate modulator which I think is different but with two engines you can just swap things around.

If they are different then the injectors will be different and you need to swap around the ECU or the head. Will be a bit more effort but should all be doable.

For sure keeping the original ECU in the car will be simpler as it keeps the AS10 (immobilizer) untouched. The ECO does not really care what engine is at the other end of the wires.

If you want to use the discovery ECU then there are things to consider...

Is the discovery manual or auto, ECUs are different (but can be modified)

Discovery ECU will make the defender temperature gauge read backwards

Discovery ECU would need to be paired to the AS10 alarm. Or you could get the ECU de-immobilised.

All can be sorted by someone with decent knowledge and kit - td5inside, BAS, Alive, Storm etc 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

I'll be honest I'm not 100%

I think you would be copying the map for fuelling, but there are other settings in the ECU which are not transferable in this way.

Speak to Pete Bell at BAS, I'm sure he could advise. 1990 Defender 110 200TDI Camper - now converted to Td5 power

Biggest difference between Def and Disco2 ECU is reversed temperature gauge and different gas pedal - using Discovery ECU in Defender transforms gas pedal to nearly ON/OFF switch.
Just moving engine needs injector codes settings. It will run with any codes, but with wrong codes it will not run as smooth as possible.
Mechanically engines are the same, Defender is missing wastegate modulator. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
