L663 Soft Top
L663 SOFT TOP

I was told, by someone in the 'know', that JLR are looking to make a soft top L663 in the future.

I suspect it will be a 90. Cool

The soft top will not be Canvas, but Mohair (as used on the Evoque). LR, whilst own by BMW, many years ago, used a Germany company Edscha for the Freelander 1 Softback. Edscha make soft tops for Audi/BMW/Merc.

Let us see........

One of my insider sources told me about this a few years back. According to him the soft top has since been cancelled, along with a short-bed crew-cab pickup based on the 130. I was told that a over a year ago, and sometimes cancelled projects get the reboot. We shall see. 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟏𝟎 𝐒 𝐏𝟑𝟎𝟎 (Pangea Green over Acorn/Lunar)

Yesterday on the M5 northbound.

The reason you don't see many is they are 'kept' vehicles. Many are older/private plate and very low mileage.

My wife was very keen on one. When she finally saw one and had a test drive she went off the idea as the boot wasn't big enough for all her shopping.. Rolling with laughter

A lucky escape eh?

Especially the Evoque convertible has an particular reputation. Has it not?

Personally, I don't see the point.

I could imagine a convertible 90 being more popular in slightly warmer climes than the UK (middle east?)..

I remember the early L663s had a fabric roof option (is it still available?) - I've never seen one, and always thought it was a bit of a brave move given the historical LR reliability at the time..

Somewhat related, but did anyone see the state of that homemade 'chopped-off' Defender Pick-up that Urban Automotive were trying to bring back to life!? Essentially a crazy dutch fella bought a hardtop 90 and took an angle grinder to the cab roof.. Looking at the amount of wiring (designed to be inside that's now outside!) and gubbins in the back, it's a heck of a job to repackage the rear to make it watertight and look good..
