Converting a 130 Td5 (2002) double cab to single cab - PVG
following up on topic "Converting a single cab to a double" (https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic74649.html)

Has anybody done this - surely simpeler than the above topic, because it's deleting stuff, not adding

The Defender Body Options overview shows that there must have been a 130 single cab chassis option in the past, but unclear whether this was a stricly B2B version or also available for B2C

I would like to convert mine from DCAB to SCAB to have a larger load bed.
But to be allowed to do (in Belgium) the PVGn° would need to be the same
(Belgian MOT looks at PVG)

To my knowledge the PVG of a 130 Td5 = 98/1486 (for both 10P and 15P)
no further distinction on body type (110 and 110DCPU have different PVG)

any info out there, idea's, links to examples....
If PVG's differ, it'll be a very tedious administrative procedure to pull this off

As far as i know, the 130 wasn’t offered with a load bed in that configuration, it was only for special usage like a cherry picker. You would just need to move the back of your cab forward and find a track cab roof and remove the b pillar and sill assembly, along with finding a few mount’s, not sure what’s needed as far as fitting the back wall in place on a 130.

The technicality of such a conversion does not worry me.
That’s basically plug and play
It the legality here in Belgium.

Scorched earth approach (do first and ask for forgiveness later) does not really work here.
I would need to have good arguements to get the MOT guys on board
If the chassis body existed in the past and the pvg is the same as the standard 130, then I have grounds to start the debate

btw …. Is PVG the right word or is COC-code better Insta: @mannythedefender

You have two options, one is the classic tray back drop side which was an option but not from the factory on an open chassis, the other would be extending your 130 tub with the parts from a spare 110 hi capacity tub

British Motor Museum at Gaydon may be able to assist with the Technical Specification; from their website,

'In our experience authorities within the EU have accepted, in place of a CoC, a Heritage Certificate combined with a Technical Specification. The Heritage Certificate lists the details recorded against an individual chassis number, whereas the Technical Specification lists the technical data for the model, as published by the manufacturer at the time the vehicle in question was manufactured. There is no formal agreement between BMIHT and registration authorities within the European Union (except for the DVLA). It is therefore up to the owner of the vehicle to explain to the relevant authority why a CoC cannot be presented, and that they are providing the BMIHT documents described above in its place. Acceptance of these documents will allow the vehicle to be registered in the relevant country.'

Certificate of Conformity

eg of the PVG number I'm referring to is: DEF130 2002 = 98/1486

So would this apply to ALL body versions of the 130 (DCAB and SCAB) ?
If the SCAB was so rare and only for special use (not sold)... what CoC would they then have in order to get registered for the road Insta: @mannythedefender

Knowing the difficulties in Belgium when you want to divert from the general rule, this would probably be a slippery slope to start on.

In that case I think the better option would be to find a company with a COP approval (conformity of production) which are allowed to do body modifications and can do the full homologation/certification Insta: @mannythedefender

I don't think many in the UK will know what PVG is. Even with your chart I have to say I still have no idea.

Would it not remain the same however if you are only altering the body?

just learned it's a Belgian thing, so I'll have to tackle it here
Try to find out if the 130 chassis body / 130 single cab was sold here in the first place

if not, then it's a dead end I guess (besides being a nice discussion starter Smile ) Insta: @mannythedefender

In the original TD5 brochure the 130 was offered in a number of special vehicle variants:

Quadtech, Fire Engine, Dropside/Tipper and Lift Platform. These would have been given a special vehicles build plate at the factory. My friend had an ex NLB Quadtech 130.

Its down the pages on this:

I think it was sold in Belgium. About 6 months ago there was 1 for sale on 2deHands.be.
They were also sold in the Netherlands, there is 1 currently for sale on Marktplaats.nl.
