Belt change only is fine unless there is problems. No Guts, No Glory.

Unless they are noisy, I would leave them alone. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Sodโs law will likely apply.
You wonโt get tensioner, idler etc and when you remove belt you find they need replacing. OR You will get tensioner , idler etc and when you remove belt you find they are in perfect condition. |

Thanks everyone. I think I will buy the lot OEM but only change idler etc as advised and if required. I am sure I will need the parts eventually. 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

I've changed the bearings in two pulleys on my 17-year-old, 279k mile 2.4 Defender. They usually last a long time.
It's only on its second drive belt, the original lasted 200k miles and was completely serviceable when I changed it. |

When do you usually decide to change the belt? Mine started getting noisy when cold/humid so Iโm gonna change it. Just wondering if the noise could mean a pulley is on its way. Making my Defender great again. (Or trying to at least xD)

50k miles, but I think they can do a lot more than that by far.
I kept the original just in case, but as Blackwolf has had they last a long time. Equally they are easy to change and relatively cheap compared to some items. I changed my last one at 50k, the current one I have now is on 52k Iโm going to keep it going, as it has a lot of life, miles isnโt everything age is also a factor I tended to change it due to age rather than miles in my case. My original one lasted 85k/10 years and had no visible signs of deterioration, so I've kept is an an emergency spare. I only changed the belt, but not very long afterwards a couple of the idlers got squeaky so had to go back in and do those. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |
