Ok to drive with caution - reduced performance
Hi All,

2022 Defender L663 Hardtop S D250

Had the above fault come up on my dash earlier on while on an A road going up a slight hill. Lost basically all power, wouldn’t go above the current speed I was going and everytime I slowed down it wouldn’t go above the current speed. Ended up going 30mph heading towards a lay by.

Pulled in done the old turn off and on again and nothing came back on, carried on home around 60 miles on the motorway and still fine.

Anyone else had this? If so, what’s the diagnosis been on it?

That's a bit like asking: "My foot hurts. Is it ok to walk on it?"

There are quite a few reasons why the ECM (engine control module) would throw a 'reduced performance' fault. A relatively harmless one would be injector compensation values are out of tolerance. While this could damage the DPF longer term, continuing to drive on it shorter term only means your emissions are too high. But something like a boost pressure leak could cause the turbocharger to exceed its max RPM as there is no pressure to slow down the turbine and, in a worst case, perform a rapid, unscheduled disassembly which would have the engine trying to digest metal chunks. Not very likely but quite destructive if it were to take place.

Have it checked. And if someone here tells you they had "exactly the same thing" it's quite meaningless.
