Colour of the headlight surrounds
Question for the rivet counters among us…

I noticed that some Series 3 (and possibly S2A as well, not sure) had their headlight surrounds painted whereas others had them in bare metal.

Do you happen to know why that difference, was it an option, or depending on markets, or utilities vs. SW, or the MY? “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

I'd have to do some research if I was to answer your question but for the record the "bare metal" isn't bare metal , it's silver paint. They've never, as far as I know, been bare.

They were always body colour until 1980 or 82. (I'll dig out the book to check) At which point they became painted silver on four cylinder series 3s, and black on stage 1 V8s. 2011 110 USW
