Hazard this time of year
Over here there can be a hazard with deer on or crossing the road. If hit a lot of damage can be done to the car and occupants. Never had an issue with deer but I did have a close call one winter night with a horse that had gone on an exploratory trip from a stable one night. Got some shock when it reared up in front of me in the headlights. Got stopped but I thought it was going to come through the windscreen. Nobody was hurt but the washing machine was well used when we got home!
Regarding the deer on the road. If they would only wear HiVis reflective jackets it would solve a lot of issues.... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Unfortunately my death tally so far is.

One Large male Fallow Deer.
One Stocky Muntjac Deer.
Two large Badgers.
Two wood pigeons.
Countless game birds, ie Pheasants that would rather take their chances and walk across a road , rather than fly and get shot.
Countess young kit rabbits in spring, I swerve left, then right, then left etc, but they always manage to throw themselves under a wheel. Crying or Very sad

Someone I knew used to get a sticker made for every animal he hit. The wing had a fine collection of graphics. One was a phone pole. I asked why that was there. He said that got hit trying to avoid the rabbit indicated prior to the pole.
My daughter had to replace the grill cover on the 90 owing to a suicidal pheasant. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My brother in law lost an entire wing and headlight on his Merc (£££) when he hit a pidgeon at 80mph.

My wife had a slow speed collision with a deer. Deer unharmed, BMW looked fine except the headlights are held in place by a cheapo plastic tab. New headlight needed...

Local plumber died hitting a deer whilst taking his daughter to work a couple of years ago. They are a menace near us despite a big cull. I came close to hitting one a few days ago. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Yes, dangerous things. Possibly not as much with a Defender, but you hit them side on and the body of the beast slides up the car bonnet and through the windscreen. Driver has no where to go.

Around Thetford Forrest in Norfolk, they graze on the side of the A11. I have seem about seven of them grazing on the grass, south bound on the three lane section of the M11 between Stansted and Harlow. I wouldn't want to think of the carnage if all seven had been spooked and ran across the motorway Shocked

I hit one a few years ago in a company car. It didn't do too much damage as it was a fairly low speed impact but I was very surprised how much it freaked me out. I was shaking like a leaf.
