GardX paint protection

Morning all.

I ordered a D350 in Silicon Silver in August and it’s due to arrive around the first week of December. The dealer is ‘throwing in’ a product called ‘GardX paint protection’ which seems to be just a temporary coating that helps repel water and dirt but there’s not much detail about it. I’ve read a few mixed reports online so thought I’d check on here if anyone has ever come across it and whether it’s okay for the paintwork (I came across a few reports of it causing damage if incorrectly applied)?

More broadly, should I be investing in more durable paint protection solutions / ceramic coatings or is that overkill? For the record I don’t intend to sell the car for many many years so I’m not going to be terribly fussed about general wear and tear. The dealer has also thrown in some ‘free’ insurance products for the first couple of years to cover paint scuffs and alloy damage (I know these probably aren’t worth the paper they’re written on).

Got my Defender in 22 from new, the dealer put gardx paint protection foc and without my knowledge.
IMHO it is absolutely rubbish, it doesn’t seem to do anything to protect the paintwork and I am still getting a white residue in the nooks and crannies. I would avoid it and go for a more premium product.

Thanks for the intel! I will ask the dealer to cancel that ‘freebie’.

For a brand new car, what paint protection solutions would people recommend?

Had a local detailing guy give my old D4 double dose of ceramic coating. That was far superior to the gardx imho.

I’ve previously had ceramic coating added to my current car and it’s definitely worth it. I have had it re-detailed annually and avoided mechanical / cheap car washes.

My new Defender is having Autoglym Lifetime Ceramic coating prior to collection and I’m hoping it’s as successful as on my current (non-LR) car!

I used Gtechniq ceramic on my Rr sport. Marvellous stuff, makes it so easy to clean…. It cost more than others but imo worth every penny and feels like silk

As with all of these products they have some benefit.
I'm sure GardX is great when applied properly but most salesmen/business managers are targeted on sale of add on products. They likely list for free to you but are actually doing a discount of a few hundred pounds off the car, putting this in at cost and increasing there penetration figures for upsell.

This would all be fine if these products were being applied properly but most are rushed through by valeters in the dealerships as they're either paid per vehicle or not allowed the time to do the job properly. Applying it to used vehicles is even more of a laugh as they contaminants on the existing paintwork are very rarely removed and these products just put on ovet the top.

I'd definitely recommend getting a proper detailer to apply a ceramic coating following proper claybar adn decontamination procedure.

Thanks all for the sage advice. I will arrange a proper ceramic coating with a specialist detailer. I’m not willing to fork out for a PPF so ceramic appears to be the next best thing.

GardX it's actually ceramic coating. My last Jaguar had the tretment done and i think if it is done properly is worth every sigle penny. I had the car 3 Years and I have never waxed it once. i used to wax my cars every few months. After the Gardx treatment never done again. just a quick detail wax.
Also makes it easier to wash it from grit and dirt during winter, just power wash it and the dirt is gone with no effort.
After the Jag in 2016 All my cars have had ceramic coating. my Porsche had Gtecniq treatment. shines like a star

Howevere if you have time you can do it yourself, the kit is 75 quid.

I was also offered a dealer supplied paint protection for £399. Politely declined as I had a professional ceramic coating done for £600 plus an extra £100 for all 5 wheels removed and coated.

Whilst it's a £300 price delta, I know I will have a piece of mind for at least 5 years, so it's a worthwhile "investment".

GardX is a genuine waste of time, i have no idea who they are or if they're a LR owned brand but for for LR to use it is a waste of time and money
