Hi.
I need to tighten the driver's side door handle from the inside. I've briefly checked for other posts and I've bought a trim removal tool but I just wanted to check for any hidden perils... The inside grab handle is easy but there's still the inside lock (central locking) and the inside door pull to negotiate. They both have additional plastic trim around them. Any tips or tricks? 1. With a small screwdriver ease the plastic flaps open on the door pull. They hinge outwards. This will expose the two screws holding the handle in place.
2. With a small screwdriver ease the plactic trim behind the lock (top r/h of door) upwards. It is just secured with a slide in catch but can take a bit of gentle effort to move. 3. Pull the door handle as if opening the door and that will expose the screw holding the handle trim in place. Remove the Screw and take the trim off. 4. If you have manual windows push the doorcard towards the door itself and you will see a circular spring clip holding the winder in place. Carefully remove the spring - be warned it will fly a long way once released if you are not careful ! 5. With the trim removal tool start removing the panel I start with the bottom corner furthest away from the front and work along the bottom edge first. Be warned - the clips at the bottom front and top front need special care as you can break the door card inside where the fixings are secured. I then do the rear edge. top and finally the front edge. 6. Once the card is off you will see the door membrane. Don't try to pull it off. Get a thin sharp blade and carefully run through the mastic as close to the door frame as you can and ease the membrane away. Good luck

Many thanks - that's harder than I thought! I hope having electric windows (Puma) won't cause further problems. I wish LR would just fix the sodding handles properly in the first place

Sounds harder than it actually is to do the job
With a bit of care you should be able to get the card off in 10 minutes, removing the membrane without ripping it does take a while though. Electric windows make the job easier as there is no window winder to remove. Bob |
