Good Evening fellow Defender nuts,
When I purchased my 110 it came with some steel modulars which I believe to be the factory wheels now as mine is a 3500kgs GVM 110 I was wondering if they are the right wheels I have seen plenty of others like it but unable to find a load rating on them. Click image to enlarge Just wondering if anyone has any more knowledge or if I should be running HD wolf wheels I am not running at full weight yet but wondering as I add more gear would rather not have issues. Many thanks in advance Tom 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day Build thread:https://www.defender2.net/forum/post1024784.html#1024784 |

I don't think the factory has never fitted modulars like those (although it is possible some SVO vehicles might have had them). In 2003 I believe you would have had standard steel tubeless rims since the "wolf" rim hadn't been introduced, but wolfs would be a sensible choice.

My 130 left the factory in 2003 with wolf wheels on.
Here it is being converted to a 'utility' from double cab. Click image to enlarge |

After some further thinking (dangerous!) and research I now think that the "wolf" wheel probably first saw the light of day with the introduction of the Military Defender XD, better known as the TUM and TUL or "Wolf", hence the name ascribed to the wheels. This was introduced in 1996.
It is likely therefore that the OP's Defender would have left the factory with wolf (aka "HD steel") wheels. |

Thanks for the replies it's interesting as I have seen other 110 ex utilities run ing around on these grey modulars but obviously if it's not quite right then I need to rethink what my plan is as I want to go back to steel wheels from my Boosts I picked up last year and I've been quoted £360 to get the modulars refurbished where as I can get wolf styles for £460 new 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Some of the utilities added strange non-standard wheels to allow for particular tyre sizes, there were (for example) electricity company (I forget which) Defenders running round Dorset with 15" rims at one time with MT or AT tyres.

I remember the SSE ones local to me had modulars and friend in Scotland it also has Modulars on his but it doesn't seem to be any reasoning to why 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day
