Window guide - How to?
Hi all, is there an easy to follow guide in replacing the plastic window guide that sits half way up the frame?

My defender came with a broken one on the drivers side and it's finally annoyed me enough to want to replace it

Any help appreciated

Here's a pic of the part

Bit of a job to replace. The sequence to do it is:
1. Remove winder and glass
2. Remove the window channel on the hinge side of the door
3. Remove plastic trim
4. Remove remnants of the old guide

Refitting:
5. Fit the new guide on the door
6. Fit the plastic trim
7. Fit the window channel
8. Refit the glass and winder

I hope I got the sequence right, but recall that the the guide is the last to come out and first to fit. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

It’s really quite a faff. I’d only do it if I were replacing all the plastic guides, channel, felt, seals etc.

When I replaced my doors, I did the whole lot and right at the end of the job that sodding thing snapped off.

Fit wind deflectors - it’s easier, does the same job, and more beneficial!

That clip goes in between the plastic trim and the felt channel. I have just redone all the trims and felt on my doors, I left this bit out (deliberately).

If you are lucky, you may be able to get away with taking the window all the way down, finding and removing the 2 self-tappers that are holding the felt channel in place and then pull the channel out from the top. This would give you access.

It really depends on how stuck in the felt channel is Sad

Thanks all sounds like a right pain as I feared Crying or Very sad

The window goes up when your stopped but if your on the move it catches the top so thinking the guide might be useful Laughing

So I need to try and pull back the felt strip and locate 2 self tappers... if not it's a total strip down in essence

The self tappers hold in the felt strip. So find and remove those first, then hope you can pull it out.
