Hi...I would check the current drain before deciding on replacing the battery..you wouldn't want it to be much above say 80ma as a ball park figure.. if excessive drain is the issue you will have the same problem with the new, and that's assuming the alternator is working properly
On mi 2.2 tdci I need to get the battery neg cable disconnected within about 15 seconds of switching off the ignition or the alarm unit sounds..
What I don't have to bother about is radio codes..

ok will do - the last time we boosted it - it was stored at a classic garage - he believed one of the cells felt hot while charging - and so a new battery maybe required-

ok - ignition on and off and disconnect- it doesn't have an alarm only an immobiliser

battery wise any recommendations?

The battery is a good one and I can recommend it: I thought I needed to replace one myself recently, but my typical low-tech fix was to ram some lead scraps between the battery terminal and the awful Land Rover connection which wouldn't tighten enough (good enough connection to run the vehicle but on occasion when starting the connection failed and set off the alarm).

BUT, you can find it cheaper than Halfords price. Battery fitting a doddle, if I can do it ANYONE can...

Good battery but unless you have a trade card, the Halfords prices are excessive.
Shop around, try Tayna for example.

I have that Yuasa battery too, it’s actually a slight upgrade to thr factory fit when I checked the specs.

Defender batteries typically last many, many years so it’s common there is a separate fault if there is any issues with drain, and a new battery won’t solve that. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

why is there apparently two different batteries (that are the same);

So, what is the difference between YBX5019 vs HSB019, here is the simple answer they are exactly the same,
