As race.it mentioned that will be helpful to you.
I would fit two male ISO connectors, this will match all aftermarket head units that you might want to fit. A multimeter to double check each feed for identity using continuity checks or voltage where appropriate. One make iso plug will be primary power, the other will be speaker outputs. You can identify each speaker feed and polarity using continuity checks. Wire it up matching din iso diagram, you’ll be fine. You need to get these which are the vehicle side ISO connectors. You can find wiring diagrams online as to how to connect it all up as the radio side is the same across the brands

I also like to use the spare ways in the power block (not the speaker block) to deal with some of the optional services such as reverse light signal if you are fitting a camera. Thanks all. Agree the recommendation vs splicing to ISO standard male connectors.
The reason for asking is to be sure I've matched the Defender wires up correctly. You may be able to see from the photos -- currently the white with orange stripe wire from the loom is connected to the ISO red wire (switched power) and the purple Defender wire to the ISO yellow (permanent power). In the carcass of the connector there is a solid blue (is that a power line for an antennae?) and a solid red wire (some other form of power?). There are back wires with yellow, or brown, or red or pink stripes. I'm trying to understand these colours on the loom wiring side so I make sure when I connect to the ISO standards I do it right. Does anyone have a quick summary of each wire purpose or can point me in the direction of a diagram or link that explains ? Really appreciate the answer so far |

ISO head unit side:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IS...pinout.svg For the LR side, follow Penfolds last link just above. Match the two that’s all you shall need to do. With DIN>ISO, when you have your new head unit whichever size it is, all you’ll need to do is fit a universal cage, then plug it straight in as most aftermarket units are ISO. In fact Defenders between 2007 and 2012 approx are ISO as standard anyway. LR changed that after 12’ for the 2.2 Puma, presumably to fit their own unit that matches. If you’re not familiar with the colour abbreviations on wiring diagrams this will help. Click image to enlarge The black wires with coloured stripes are speaker wires, be careful to get the polarity correct. You won’t damage a speaker by wiring it back to front but it will sound dreadful! |

All the advice very helpfully received as was the wiring diagram Turns out the hacked wires for etc radio all had the polarity reversed, now sorted A picture of the final job by way of thanks and just in case anyone else the same problem the wires and mapping (this is LHD 110) Cheers Click image to enlarge |
