Likely due to Turbo actuation and sticky vanes, the noise is the actuation stuck open, which in turns triggers limp mode which then cuts power. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

It sounds like one of the intercooler hoses is collapsing under the high pressure. If so it would be better in the cold, and worse with heat as the hoses would be softer. It could be a split in a hose, but I think that to be more progressive and not so abrupt.

Ok so I have disconnect the actuator arm, and sprayed silicon onto it this means the dump valve can move pretty freely now.
I can check the pipes they feel soft in the heat but it seems to be abit better when the car is warm, will have another look! Just disconnected the actuator pipe and when Revving in idle which it is fine at this is blowing air shouldn’t it be sucking? The pipe you refer to operates the wastegate which vents off excess boost, therefore it will 'blow' not
'suck' as it comes from the compressor side of the turbo. If the wastegate is seized, as your revs rise and the boost increases the vehicle registers over boost and will limit power. One way to check it is free is to use a bike pump on the hose to see if you can get the wastegate to open using air pressure. Avoid an airline as the wastegate doesn't require very much pressure to open. The standard Td5 turbo is a basic design so there are no vanes to seize or actuators to worry about, just a simple wastegate. |

Any grease or oil on the wastegate turbo lever will burn and seize it more than before. Just disconnect it from the controll rod and move. It must move freely and easily. Withou disconnecting, you are fighting strong spring in the controller. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

Possibly turbo over-boost. Are you able to measure the boost pressure while driving? Charlie

Check air filter too. Do Td5s have possibility of collapsing the intake hose between air filter and turbo inlet? But that would be in extreme cases. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
