United Kingdom 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Indus Silver
Defender axles.
My defender is needing discs and pads. While the hubs are off the wheel bearings can be, inspected, changed, repacked and new hub seals. (Late 2.4 Tdci, 110, 2011 model)

The seal retainers for swivels have nearly dissolved. They will be getting done too. Probably with stainless retainers.

I have never only ever had a defender hub off on my old td5. It had the single wheel bearing arrangement they my TDCI will. I have been advised to change to the two nut style that series and earlier defenders used.

The questions are:

Should I two nut idea on the wheel bearings? (Adjustable)

Are the wheel bearings all the same size for a defender axles? (I have metric Timkin ones on the shelf that I got for my series. Remember seeing them listed that they would defender too. Even up to late ones)?

What the hub seal rides on. What is the done thing if there is a grove worn? (On my series, they have a ring that you just change. Is it the same arrangement on a defender, or is it a speedi sleeve or stub axle change?

Are the seals in the end of the front axle before where the swivel balls join the same on all defender ages?

I am asking on the basis of not wanting to have the car immobilised in the way waiting for spares and causing a blockage.

Your thoughts are welcomed

Kevin
