Emissions are too high. I mean come on, really? This would be a cracking think on our awful UK roads. Does need a bit more grunt tho. 1951 80" S1 2.0

Its for the environment you know. But they can have high emissions elsewhere, just like TATA steel, coal mines, waste 'disposal', etc.

Europe saving the world..

I think it is more it doesn't weigh enough. I suspect it is cleaner than most of the 4x4s sold in the UK currently. The 3 door one was..... I believe heavy vehicles can have higher emissions without the same penalty.

lt's to do with total emissions of Suzuki's range. lf they don't reach a certain level they get fined £15,000 for every vehicle they sell in the U.K.

The Jimny isn't a hybrid so pushes them over the "fine" threshold. The 3-door is currently still available as a Commercial variant as this is exempt

I think there must be more to it than that, else how does pretty much every other car maker sell bigger saloons, SUVs and 4x4s!!!

Suzuki is one of the very few car makers to only sell small compact cars with tiny engines and power outputs. It wouldn't make sense if every other car maker gets fined, as you say £15,000 per vehicle. There would never be any profit in any of them.

Most other large 4x4's are either hybrid or mild hybrid

Either that, or they're N1 Commercial which makes them exempt. For some reason Suzuki didn't fit a hybrid power unit in the Jimny.

Every other vehicle Suzuki sells is at least a mild hybrid.

As I understand it that is right. They have to hit certain emissions standards over the company’s whole range. The result being they choose to sell combustion engined cars with the biggest profit margin, basically large SUV’s. From the company’s point of view it makes perfect sense but it has effectively killed certain markets, the reasonably priced hot hatch being the most obvious,
but also niche cars like the Jimmy. WARNING.

Ironically the whole regulation hurts the smaller manufacturers the most, as they don't have the broad range of high volume cars (including hybrids and BEVs) that can bring their averages down. The Jimny isn't a particularly bad polluter, compared to some, but Suzuki can't play the numbers game. Poorly thought out regulation (well, most regulation is).

Suzuki is supposed to be working on a BEV version, but there is very little information about timeframes. If they did a 5 door affordable Jimny EV I would be running to a Suzukin dealership.

I have heard that they, Suzuki, have elected not to supply the UK with four seat Jimny as they cannot keep up with worldwide demand, so easier to supply 2 seater LCV only - not sure how true or not that might be.

It appears that the Jimny following is similar to Defenders - a big & passionate following for these cars!

I don’t believe that demand is the reason. The Jimny 4 seat version is not sold anywhere in the EU. Every source has stated that emissions is the reason, and that’s why the commercial has been available.

Suzuki just announced they are discontinuing the two seat version as well now, to make way for EVs that are on the horizon. Sources are stating they would be facing big fines next year if they can’t get EVs out.

Cheap and cheerful 5 door EV Jimny, thank you very much.

Just too small and underpowered in my opinion, we had one briefly years ago.

The main factor is the interior is tiny, the only advantage externally is they can fit in a few places that larger vehicles can’t. NEVER SURRENDER! ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

The 3 door would be fine for a second car for us. But it's the 5 door that has me interested, as that would give a bit more extra internal space. If it was a BEV then power/torque would not likely be much of an issue.

How could you have had a 5 door Jimny years ago? They are fairly new and not sold in Europe.

Not 5 door but 3… Yes they are smaller, but not that much of a great difference. NEVER SURRENDER! ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Had considered one of these as my daughter's first car but as she wanted to tow a horsebox it was not suitable. Got here a 300 tdi 90 station wagon which does the job and she loves it. Still the Suzuki seems to be a fine vehicle. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
