Considering Defender 110 P400e Order
After an absence since selling my last LR in 2016 I’m considering a return to the Green Oval so first off if anyone remember me I’d like to say “Hi”👋

It’s a long story but let’s just say the grass isn’t always greener on the other side 🤦‍♂️

I’m in need of a good tow vehicle for a 1900kg Coachman Lusso 1

I’ve narrowed down my choices to -

Range Rover Sport P440e or P460e

Land Rover Discovery 5 D300 MHEV

Land Rover Defender 110 P400e

Interested to get owners feedback before I sell my soul to the devil again 🤣 Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I’m retired now and had problems with DPF on my last Disco Sport so I’ve steered clear of diesel hence the PHEV preference - today we found out no stock and long waiting list for 110 so it’s now off the list unfortunately as we need a replacement vehicle urgently ☹️ Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Yep I would also throw my two cents in the ring and point out that PHEV isn’t the most natural choice for a tow vehicle.

I had a Defender P400e which towed great but didn’t half chew through fuel when cruising (it’s only a 2.0 petrol after all) once you’ve got through the battery.

I actually get better MPG on a run from my P525 V8 than I did with the PHEV and certainly better when towing (which is a breeze!). As others have said, the diesels are great too or if you really are keen on petrol then the P400 3.0 is a decent engine by all accounts. Cheers, David
Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8.

The petrol Defender will guzzle fuel if your towing. A friend over the road has a P400e and whilst it’s great for short journeys, and I do mean short because the electric range is very low, it’s a bit juicy on longer runs. The diesel is a superb car. My D300 tows great and can return 25 mpg with the 1500 kg caravan. Solo it can do 35 on decent run. 28 average over 28k miles. No dpf issues, and it’s needed 2 adblu refills.

The diesel seems reliable, no stories of serious issues and it’s now been around for over 3 years, so you could say it’s proven. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Appreciate the advice on diesels and in an ideal world I’d buy a diesel PHEV but only MB offer this ☹️

2010-15 I had 2 RRS (3.0 TD/SDV6) which averaged high 20s solo and 17-22 mpg towing 1800kg Twin Axels Cool

2015-16 I had a 2.0 i4 Disco Sport solo averaged 35 mpg when it wasn’t back in the workshop but I didn’t tow due to issues with Elddis ending love of caravans for a while 🤦‍♂️

2016-19 I ran an Outlander PHEV after problems with Disco Sport and averaged 80 mpg but we still weren’t towing 🤔

2019-21 ran a Countryman PHEV at 105 mpg still not towing but we had a Moho then 👍

Last year after hearing about the Mazda CX60 PHEV towing 2.5T and based on my previous fault free PHEV experience I jumped at the chance - I’ve averaged 49 mpg over 7k miles in 12 months (19-24 towing 1900kg) but the vehicle is the least reliable I can remember and the suspension is like something from the 70s - towing is dangerous Big Cry

So this is where I am - I’m convinced a PHEV works for me but reliability has to be good Embarassed

X5 or XC90?

My XC90 was exceptional. Many D3/4 owners have switched to them. Just look at the Disco 3 forum! Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

I was looking for a low mileage D4 initially and most of the Disco blokes said don’t do it get an Xc90 Embarassed

I considered it but after hearing Volvo are still making money in Russia went off it Sad

A few people have mentioned the X5 but expensive and now I’ve visited LR dealers again I’m hankering for a green oval Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I had an xc90 phev and really didn’t like it - acted front wheel drive on hard acceleration (petrol front wheels, electric rear). I had a Range Rover sport phev on order for six months but cancelled when price went up (and interest rate) with no idea of delivery date. For towing I would get defender diesel but I have bmw ix50 which I love. When Land Rover finally get round to ev I will buy one (not Range Rover though) but wouldn’t be keen on towing with one
