I need a new starter motor and see Britpart are about the least expensive - are they any good?

Britpart sells Powerlite Starter Motors which are mainly fitted to Ford engines and have decent reviews. However, if you want a bulletproof starter, I would opt for either a Bosch or a Denso a bit more expensive but you get what you pay for. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Denso is factory used for TD5. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Definitely a new starter needed and not just a solenoid rebuild? I've rebuilt mine 2 or 3 times now...

Incidentally I first brought a new Hella make starter on eBay and it didn't work. I removed it, got my money back from eBay and fitted a genuine Denso model starter motor and starts perfectly.

From what I have read the fuel injectors won't be activated by the computer unless the engine is turning fast enough on the starter. I guess that my old starter wasn't up to the job. I have also seen it mentioned that electrical interference from failing starter can confuse the readings from the crank position sensor.

More probably some interference on crank signal, then too slow starter. Engine starts also with nearly death battery, only bearly turning. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Nice one! I've actually been on the search as the only options we had previously were Denso or unknown Chinese makes via Britpart/Allmakes.

I have had several of these out on test for about 8 months with good feedback. I also have one on one of my Td5's. These are from a company owned by Bosch. They are what I call "Chinese made but with adult supervision" i.e. fully tested. Also every individual part is available separately for them.

If you pay top dollar at say Land Rover you probably get reputable parts, but I cannot always justify that, so you go to the many alternatieves as you we know you roll the dice. I find often getting used parts is not a bad option. Like a starer, if you find s good one you pop in some new contactors and you end up with something better than the Chinese stuff being peddled

Starter motors are repairable- Replaced the solenoid contacts on my TD5, the starter motor body had a sticker on it to indicate that it had been overhauled - I assume it is a Denso
