td5 oil cooler o-rings
Just fitting. oil cooler repair kit to my 1999 td5. Silly question, the repair kit comes with 4 o-rings, 2 black and 2 green.
Assuming that they both go on the "banjo bolts" that hold the replacement cooler in place, which ones go where ? When i removed the old fitting could only see 1 pair of black o-rings between bolt heads and casing.
Assuming green ones go between. cooler matrix and the casing ?

I've just done the same and had the same issues couldn't find the green o rings. I used the dowty seals and the black o rings to hold it into the casing so far so good! Just couldn't see anywhere for them to go which was strange. 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Glad its not just me.When I took the old oil cooler matrix out there were no seals between it and the casing and only black seals between bolts and casing on outside.

Currently stripping down anciliaries to change head gasket. Car been sitting round for a while and noticed oil level was higher than it was before. Took out drain plug and loads of coolant came out b4 we got to oil.

Newly skimmed head going on which should cure the exhaust gasses in coolant issue but given the amount of coolant in sump, now wondering if the green seals should be somewhere...

diagram on lrworkshop.com not that helpful

Just looked at the workshop manual and there are only 2 o-rings on the banjo boltsbetween them and the casingfrom front. Nothing between finned cooler and casing Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb

I'll let you know in a few weeks after I've put a thousand miles on it! But it is strange and they don't really fit anything else 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Parts diagram here shows the o-rings between the cooler and the housing, they just aren't given their own part number https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-r...lter_53224

You should have 2x o-rings in the kit and 2x bonded sealing washers (commonly called Dowty washers) which are metal with an inner rubber sealing ring.

The o-rings go between the finned cooler and the outer casing and the Dowty washers go between the head of the banjo bolts and the housing on the outside Thumbs Up 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Although the Td5 Defender WSM supplement makes no mention of any seals other than the ones between the banjo bolt heads and the oil cooler casing, the exploded parts drawing in the Td5 Disco 2 manual clearly shows two o-ring seals between the matrix and the casing, inside the cooler.

There is no mention of these in the operations section of the manual since the operation to remove and refit the oil cooler does not include removing the matrix from the cooler.
