Can anybody put a value on a very early Defender 110 Hi Cap all original, condition is fair, chassis does need work or replacing, engine gearbox clutch and brakes drive quite nicely, steering is a bit vague. If by chance anybody has any history on it ? There cannot be to many of this model and age kicking about

Its old enough to be rebuilt and sold in the states, although now so many people are trying to sell them into that market the inflated values don't seem to be being reached.
Our farm hicap is a similar age but now on a galvanised chassis with a 3.9 in it, useful truck! Needing chassis work I see that as in the hundreds, are you actively looking to sell it? What would you take for it? |

How much do they want for it then ?
Or are you selling it - you haven't made it clear ? |

Based on your description and photos it needs a chassis, the rear tub is tatty and with lower edge panels missing, front wings are tatty, various lights missing.
Unlikely to get Mot in current state, I stand by its worth hundreds if in the uk. In Ireland I don't know what values are like. There is/ was a factory 200 hcpu slightly tidier but still fairly rough from an independant dealer on autotrader for £2.5k yesterday. However it might well be worth more to the various companies sending Defenders to the states... |

As an indication of value I bought an A plate 110 hardtop in slightly better condition but still needing chassis work. It was also more original in that it still had the correct door locks and door cards which cannot be easily replaced. I gave £1100 for mine so I guess anything around the £1K mark would have to be about right for a private sale.

cr - it might be worth investigating the vin number incase it is a very early 110 (assuming that would add value?).

Hi CR,
I have had a quick check on clifton scientific (google land rover vin) and as your vehicle had an earlier model 2.25 diesel engine (as rusty wingnut has clearly pointed out) it also has a 5 speed box. The very early 110s had a 4 speed box if i recall correctly (land rover anorak to the forum please). so i don't think it could be classed as a "very" rare 110 hicap, still a nice vehicle, though ![]() |
