That is ridiculous.

£2650?!

I'm 24, 3 years with the vehicle & 6 years NCB. Also, declared my engine conversion with Adrian flux. £1700

Without being rude I imagine you're older and thus a greater NCB

ironically, I was going to trade my other vehicle for a 2011/10 110 and that returned with a quote from Adrian flux of £2350?! little 2.4...

My vehicle is an 06 reg so perhaps youre right regarding later pumas... what a rip off 4.0 V8 Defender 90

I am a bit older. 8 years NCD and it's a 65 Reg 90 SW XS with very low miles which all played in it their quote.

I called NFU and got a quote for £900 which seemed fair considering they are a specialist company.
Lancaster matched Aviva but explicitly state no form of off-roading/green laning due to the age and value of my 90.

Ended up with Aviva at £610 which still was a bit of a hard pill to swallow. I've got a Morgan 4/4 which is slightly newer and of the same value of the 90 and it runs me approx. £300 to insure and NCD doesn't apply.

A the end of the day, it's a drop in the bucket in regards to cost of the 90 so it is what it is.

Small update which I added in my original post.

After a bit of back and forth my insurer has confirmed that green laning is covered due to many of the points listed in this thread but stressed proper off-roading isn't.

Feels good to have this in writing and for peace of mind. Smile

Which is as expected but reassuring.

Remember that "green-laning" is not "off-roading" in any sense since a green lane is a road.

What do you consider "proper off-roading" (and by extension what is "improper off-roading")?

If you drove your vehicle the length of Africa or along Cape York's Old Telegraph Track would it be "proper off-roading"? Would you expect your insurance to cover it?

Good question Blackwolf and one I don't have the knowledge to answer.

I've done a few green lane tours with a guide and on my own following a friend enjoying the country side in my previous Defender. While this will irk some, I will only being using a fraction of the Defender's capability and treating it much like I do the Morgan which is essentially a toy, going away for the weekend etc. But equally enjoy getting it on the lanes and enjoying the country side.

Suffice it to say, I won't be venturing anywhere where damage could occur.

TRY NFU
Try NFU - deal with farmers and green lanes are no issues and even light off roading as they deal with farmers if they said no off roading be carnage. only pay and plays are exluded.
