Bent Door Switches - Alarm Woes
Vehicle was shouting at me when I went to lock it. Checked the door switch and it was bent over inwards, so circuit was not closing when the door was shut. I swapped in a spare from the TD5 with a longer button but notice this bent over straight away too. Checked the passenger side and... yep bent over.

All seemed fine and just suddenly both are knackered. Assuming this just the usual engineering failures rather than something Machiavellian.

Alas, the alarm went off earlier which was quite distressing.

Is this a door aligment issue? I have new switches arriving tomorrow but just wondering how I can ensure tonight she is alarmed and unlikely to throw a wobbly at 3am. I don't appear to be able to central lock her without the fob. If I push down the button internally it just pops up. Lock barrel is knackered too.

I have a donor vehicle for more switches... 2001 Defender Special Vehicles TD5 Hardtop (Ex Scottish & Southern) Side Lockers, Side Hatches - Poorly chassis and bulkhead. (SORNd)

It might be the brackets that activate the switches, are they bent or loose? $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Checked them and they look solid. No cracking or movement. The front lower hinge is shot which may mean it was catching it. I have bent them back, turned them through 90degrees so they bend outwards towards the door plate. Should suffice until morning.

I think the alarm went off because the button wasn't held behind the plate and slowly crept back out, suggesting the door was opened while armed.

I wonder if just removing the knackered buttons would keep the alarm happy?? 2001 Defender Special Vehicles TD5 Hardtop (Ex Scottish & Southern) Side Lockers, Side Hatches - Poorly chassis and bulkhead. (SORNd)

Yes. Just unplug them. The switch is open when the door is closed. Easy to remember Laughing

Cheers. The olay in the door due to a broken hinge is causing the striker plate to come in at an angle. I have three left of the aftermarket replacements which are made of a more brittle plastic.
