Why do you want one? So you can struggle to find a replacement air filter that fits or buy the 'soon to be out of stock' £65 ones from 4x4 Overlander?
Don't buy a V3 they're crap. (I've got a V3 currently but I've got an Allisport one arriving soon to replace it) In fact don't buy one at all, get one of Allisport's new airboxes that do the same and will accept £10 filters available anywhere. |

Nonsense, filters are easily available, or if you prefer you can buy a washable one from ITG. I agree your V3 is plasticky rubbish so I can understand why you feel bitter but the V2 is incredibly well made from solid billet and powder coated stainless. The only reason Wayne stopped making them was because they were too expensive to produce. As for the Allisport, I have both, on different trucks, and performance wise there is nothing between them. If you manage to find a V2 I’d definitely recommend buying one, they are a work of art and will last forever. WARNING.

If they're so easily available, why is there a whole thread devoted to finding an off the shelf filter that fits properly, that as far as I know has failed to do so?
I was looking for a V2 to replace my V3 with and would have bought one if I could have found one if Allisport had not released their own airbox so I am not anti Nugget, it is a great product, it's just the V3 is terribly shoddy quality in comparison to the earlier versions. I just don't know why you would buy something that's obsolete and has a known issue (as reported by many forum members) with finding properly fitting airfilters... https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic82321.html I see you mention on the thread you have found filters that fit but you don't provide any links? There are many people that would thank you for providing one if you've found a filter that fits |

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have had absolutely no problem finding filters that fit my Nugget V2 airbox in the UK, I really don't understand why it is so difficult for so.
That being said, if for any reason I needed to replace the airbox now (or if I bought another TDCi Defender) I would fit an Allisport airbox and certainly not a Nugget V3. |

You clearly have an axe to grind. I get that you were disappointed with the V3 but why didn’t you just return it instead of butchering it with a sander? What were you thinking? No company would accept a return in that condition. The V2 is a different beast entirely. Nuggetstuff recommended air filter is commonly used in OZ by Japanese manufacturers and was chosen because it was both freely available and more importantly coped with the extreme environments over there, it will never go obsolete. It will protect your turbo/engine and not tear, collapse or disintegrate. Now why anyone would choose to spend the best part of a grand on a high performance induction system with all the extra forces it produces and then put a cheapo £10 paper air filter in it is beyond me, you should at the least buy one from a reputable brand, especially as both units are sealed with no water seperation. It’s like running a Bentley on chip fat, sure it may drive, for a while… Whilst a paper filter will fitthe Allisport they recommend an ITG for longevity and performance, mine cost £75 from them. These last an age but you will need to clean and oil, which will cost more than a tenner. You can also buy them for Nuggetstuff but I have found their ones more than up to the job. WARNING. I've no axe to grind, yes I was very disappointed with the V3, especially so as I'd thought initially upon ordering that I would receive the beautifully crafted V2, but I fitted it and it has worked fine (a small amount of dust gets in through the seal on the lid) for the past year or however long it's been on.
I will be replacing it with the new Allisport which has actually just been dispatched, but I would also have been very happy with a Nugget V2 and I had a wanted thread up for a while before I found out about the Allisport. Thanks for mentioning the ITG filter, I've just ordered one, the £10 filter I was referring to was information I got from watching the Allisport promo video where the Allisport chap says "it uses a cheap £10 air filter freely available from anywhere". If there is a better option available obviously I will use it and I am certainly not one to be using cheap products on my vehicles especially as the Defender is purely an off-road toy maintained with no expense spared. As to the reason I "butchered it with a sander" (although actually it was more a case of making sure it was actually watertight when fitted) was that I had already removed the standard airbox by cutting it out before I opened the packaging of the Nugget box (a rookie move I admit) so there was no option but to make it work as I was away on a green laning weekend with deep water crossings the next day. |
