200 TDI - strange noise
Hello - new to the forum - I have a 1993 110 200 TDI. Just had a ground up restoration at Nene Overland. Was stood for six months after that. Just brought over to the US and is making a whining / clanking noise from below the transmission tunnel. Does not affect performance. Please see audio on link below - starts at around three seconds on audio. Any help would be appreciated.

You've checked the gear and transfer box oil levels and greased all the u joints?

Pay most attention to the transfer box.

Also, make sure it isn't in diff lock. Physically check it isn't by jacking up a front wheel. With the other wheel on the ground and the main gearbox in neutral you should be able to rotate the lifted wheel. If it is in t-box diff lock you will only get a small amount of movement before the gear backlash is taken up.
