Definitely do that. If it’s only £22 for 3 chains you must have a small bar in which case they won’t take long at all to sharpen. As someone mentioned above it’s also good practice to give a quick sharpen in the field, that way they’ll never get too blunt and it’s kinder to your saw. You can make your own vice from a thin stump or if that’s not practical just buy a stump vice. WARNING. This post may contain sarcasm. |

The Stihl easy files are the way to go. Fool proof. I have proved it.

Sthil 3 in 1 is very simple efficient way of doing it pretty much fool proof it gives you the angle and does the depth too.
2mins for 15" bar, great to use in the field. The key is securing the saw/bar to tale out movement. Three chains for £22! That could also be the problem! Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Just bought a set of diamond stones for a die grinder at the recommendation of a friend who works in forestry.
Always done it by hand but there's a stack of chains that have hit stones and earth etc., the stone sharpens them up in no time at all. Sure the hand file is great but once the chains hit a stone or something then the die grinder is far faster. Only about £12 for a set of 3 stones. If you use the whole stone then as it wears down it can be used on the next chain size down. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273668138272?mk...media=COPY Took a completely knackered 30" chain back to new in under a minute. I use the same. Simple tool even gives you the perfect angle. You’ll need to buy the right one for the size of chain but they are not expensive on the dreaded e- thingy bay Ride like you stole it!! If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do… 2011 2.4 Puma 90 HT |
