Air suspension and rear shocks
I had VB Air suspension fitted about a year ago, and all is well, or was, until about 4 months ago I heard a rattling at the rear of the vehicle. It drove me mad as I couldn't track it down, until I realised it was coming from outside, not inside. It turned out to be the top of the passenger side rear shock which had come out of its fitting and was tapping on anything it could find. Anyway, this wasn't ideal, so i have removed the shock to avoid damage and it looks like the threaded rod at the top has just been pulled out of it's fixing.
The shocks came with the kit that was supplied to the VB Air dealer that fitted the sir suspension, so they aren't original.

VB Air have been contacted but nothing has come back from them for about two months, so i think I may have to sort this myself.

While I have no definite idea what has gone wrong I suspect that it might be due to the rear wheels dropping suddenly and extending the shock fully, and hammering the top end of the fitting. Driving off a kerb is one example of that sort of thing.

I can't see any bump stop for the 'fully extended' direction, so presumably there isn't one and the shock has to be able to extend far enough that this hammering doesn't happen. Does anyone know of a source of shocks that will extend far enough to avoid this hammering problem, and of course, fit a 110?

You will probably have to use a front damper from someone like Fox with a extended 2" lift but be careful as a longer damper may over extend the airbag. If a robust top bush and washer something like the original thick washers used on OE Defender dampers is used it should prevent the damper pulling out of the bush.

I've often used the Fox Pin/Pin set up - but have had issues with the Fox dampers snapping pins (early version).
