Car switches off after driving in wet weather
Hi all

I’m getting a little frustrated with our dealership .As they cannot /will not put the effort to find a locate a fault on my car ,and to add insult to the issue they keep trying to charge me for the diagnostic cost !!!!

Basically we live in rural area and a lot of the road round us get flooded 6” to 9” deep . When I drive through these lane (not fast just meter high splash either side) when I get to end of lane /next junction and stop at give way or something . The car automatically switches off .

I then have to restart car

However is I leave stop start disabled it does not switch it’s self off driving through flooded roads .


Does anyone have an ideas and please no suggestions to buy a Toyota or not go out in wet 😹😹😹😹

Sounds like stop start is working perfectly.....unless I've missed something?

Sorry my message was a little vague

It’s actually switches it’s self off fully . So I have to put foot on break peddle and press start to restart the car 2023 110 Xs commercial D250

Only ever does it when driving through water . Rest of the time the car is fine ? 2023 110 Xs commercial D250

Obviously the start stop system has a fault, and it’s a complex system.
This article gives a basic generic explanation of how a stop start system works and the components involved.

I expect the water is getting at one of the components in the engine bay, potentially a sensor, preventing it from initiating a restart. I.e the wiring / connector to the brake pedal, or it could be the wiring or connections to the starter ( noting on a stop start system the starter operates in a different way to a non stop start equipped engine) , or one of the starter replays or associated wiring and connectors.

What we really need is a workshop manual for your vehicle to identify component location and wiring diagrams, plus a readout of any DTC’s that have been recorded.

From their it’s basic old school methodic fault finding, which I suspect the technicians at the dearlership are not given time to do , or particularly experienced in as they trend to rely on the diagnostic kit telling them where the fault is, and if it’s not telling them they say fault not found !!!

I agree it’s the stop start .i do sense the dealer ship don’t want to mess with it ,as its not straight forwards . Each time tested no fault found apparently .

Looks like I have to kick off a bit and try and get them to try harder . But at end of day ,they are not Realy mechanics any more just fitters , no one seems to be able to think outside the box and only does Whst the computer tells them . Mine has done this once after driving through deep flood water, (24" +) much like th OP I live in an area that routinely floods.

About 500 yards beyond the flood I came to the end of the lane and the car completely switched off/shut down, all screens off etc, and had to be manually restarted.

I was on the way to the dealership anyway for the idler repair and got them to check it for codes etc but nothing was found.

It's never done it before on since either...
