Run the Nanocom emulator and you can compare the functionality with your current lynx tool.

Depends on budget but I’d personally, if you’ve a few different td5 vehicles you want to use it on that will work with all system and models I’d browse eBay and keep your eyes out for an older Autologic “blue box” with Land Rover software (£500-2k depending on what manufacturers are on it) or an old “brick” nanocom that’s not locked to a vin. I have nanocom, T4, T4 mobile and Autologic for just defenders and I’d pick up the Autologic every time over the rest, the blue box is out of subscription, but continues to work up to 2017 model all Land Rover and isn’t vin locked. The lynx is just ok and the t4 takes too long and you have to follow along the procedure how they want you to do it, the Blackbox Solutions MSV or whatever it is now was awful in my opinion and I got rid of it, nanocom is handy for taking out and about/fuel map files or travelling.
No one is better than the other at everything, but if I had to have one it’d be the blue box every time, this is my third one and there’s a reason every independent probably has one. |

See the TD5 Nanocom page , at the bottom you will see documents re engine ECU, ABS and Alam 10AS support.
https://www.nanocom-diagnostics.com/produc...er-td5-kit Ps, reading the Engine ECU document it states; “The ECU was updated in 2000 with the addition of new features which would allow the ECU to have its fuelling and operating system software updated by being reprogrammed through the diagnostic connection.”. I suspect that’s why there are different diagnostics available for your 1999 and 2004 TD5’s |

TD5 engine ECUs were upgraded from MSB to NNN type with change from eprom to flash memory. With flash memory it is possible to program better/newer or tuned map into ECU through OBD with diagnostics equipment, instead of replacind/resoldering programmed eprom memory. Diagnostics equipment is the same, software in ecu i bit different. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

With Nanocom look for instrument mode, it works like engine multimeter. For standard use, tachometer instaled in dash is my preferred solution, I use Nanocom in different cars. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo
