Nanocom Typical Readings

Does anyone have a list of typical readings for a 2.4? I have an issue with black smoke under load. I have noticed that it happens when the EGR measures above about 30% when driving in 6th. EGR goes to 100% at idle and drops to 0% under acceleration in the lower gears, but has a tendency to open partially in 6th gear no matter what. It logged faults for turbo under boost, mass or volume air flow and egr mechanical failure the other day and gave the engine light. The fact that the EGR is so active would indicate that it is opening and closing, but what would cause it to open excessively? Any comments you might have would be greatly appreciated. The truck is running well in all other gears apart from 6th at the moment.

Anyone with a 2.4 and a Nanocom willing to do a quick run and get some baseline figures? Such as at idle, stationary at 3k rpm. Circa 3k in fith and 6th. Would certainly help me decipher what I am seeing! Thanks, Dave.

A kind offer, I am unsure if the readings are the same, ie. Voltage, % etc. But they should be similar? I will ask on the Nanocom site also.

At 3000rpm in all gears and when static was 0%. Load was positive at each step. When lifting off EGR opened at about 2500rpm when load was down to 0%. Daisy loved 3000rpm in 6th, speedy 👍 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

Mine appears to be working differently to yours?! Egr is 100% at idle/no load and at 0 under acceleration! I wonder if it's just a difference in the Nanocom and Ultragauge. Did you get any reading between 20 and 50%?I have a feeling my egr is just fine. I have too much fuel at times for some reason.

And what speed did you reach at 3000rpm in 6th? I hope I hadn't you too far over the limit!!

EGR will bumble around 20-40% when under low load such as 40 in 5th on flat, opens more when load drops.
3000 in 6th was beyond where the limiter was 👍 we were both smiling 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

Suspect VCV, which won’t log any DTC’s but might well be throwing other things out.

Also lube the Turbo actuator pivots with 3in1 light oil.

See how that goes, just some ideas.
6th gear is where VCV failure is noticeable when power is down in the upper most gears. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
