Throttle completely cuts out on 2006 Defender 90 TD5

Hi,

I've had this issue on and off for about 5 years.
For context, I'll be driving, and suddenly I get no response from the throttle and an engine light comes on. The only way to fix it, is by turning the ignition, unplugging the TPS from the pedal and then plugging it back in and turning the engine on.

From what I can tell, it only seems to happen 5/10 minutes after there's been a big acceleration (like pulling out of a lay-by, etc...). But sometimes it'll take you completely off guard.

I am thinking it could be the TPS, so I bought a second hand one, but that didn't work. But wondering if it could be something deeper.
Any ideas?

2006 Defender 110 Td5 USW Zermatt Silver

It is a well know issue that the wires from the TPS to the ECU rub through and cause the symptoms you mention and is cured by running a new loom from underseat ECU to TPS, using trailer multicore cable.

I'd second this. I had very similar random issues which have all been solved by re-doing the wiring from ECU to pedal.

You can buy the replacement looms now too
