Ooooo eck lad that turbo has seen better days. Nice bent blade there too.
You have two options: rebuild with a replacement CHRA cartridge or a whole new turbo. It is a higher level easy DIY job to do, basic tools but if a stud snaps you will need extraction tools. |

The turbo is still working ok but yes, there needs to be something done in the future. I bought the car a couple of years ago and it was a newly transplanted engine from a discovery. The filter is adapted from the original 1987 2.5l diesel and a tad small for the 300tdi. I've bought a new filter and hoses for the 300tdi air filter and now need to figure out how to shoe horn it in to the 1987 layout! |

![]() The only thing that I would caution about is that given the obvious damage to your impeller I would wonder about damage to the internal housing as well. In your case I would source a good second hand turbo and refurb it with a hybrid style CHRA. I used these guys for my TD5 CHRA and it has been flawless over the past 4-5 years.
