Has anyone installed one of these Kits? Any reviews on its operation and installation?
Looks like it would be a fairly straight forward install.

I asked the same question here - half way down the thread. result was that no one had tried at that stage but that may have changed by now.

I looked at this a while back but it looked as if the stalk is only left hand side fitting, and as there are already two stalks on the left, I thought it would be awkward to fit and use.
Love to see a pick of if someone has fitted one and where.

On the book of faces, someone on their has just fitted one

They reckon on it taking 4 to 5 hours and it very happy with it.... Details from the post below..

UPDATE
I recently purchased a Precision Cruise Control unit from Canm8.com.
Firstly, excellent customer service and replied quickly to my queries.
The unit is a considerable amount cheaper than other brands out there. Furthermore, it has the additional feature of a Limiter which some others do not.
I installed the unit today, relatively easy if you know your wiring and are good with a soldering iron.
First test drive had me pleasantly surprised! It’s a good looking unit, easy to use and is very responsive!
I would thoroughly recommend this unit to anyone looking at installing a cruise control unit.
I will upload some pictures of the install in due course.

Is it for a td5?

If so the ECU is ready for it you only need a few wires and 2 push buttons. If so I have the schematic somewhere. Roel

4-5 hours for £185!?
As said above you can do it with a bit of wire and a couple of carling switch, or genuine dash switches to fit some blanks on the centre cluster. I guess including switches that would cost less than £20... Insta: @thebenjordan4x4

Those cruise control sticks aren’t great quality, and a very fiddly to use on the move. I’ve fitted one to a different vehicle and it is far from “natural” to use.

We’ll I’ve just fitted the CanM8 Precision Cruise control. Took about 3.5 hours to complete the installation. Most of the time was spent routing the wires and gaining access to the various wire tappings. At one point I had to ring CanM8 as their instruction Regarding the Clutch switch connection was out of date as there is no longer a need to Earth the system.

In terms of functionality it’s really good especially the speed limiter (as if Defenders needed this function!) which many aftermarket Kits do not have. A good system at a very good price compared to other kits.

I fitted one of these 12 months ago and it was fine, until about two months ago when I started to get
P2122 OBD errors and Limp home mode. It was infrequent to start with and got progressively worse. That error is to do with the redundant throttle pedal potentiometer signal not matching correctly with the other signal, I believe. Once it got unbearably frequent I sapped the cruise unit out and all is fine now, so it does look like the cruise control system.

I've contacted CANM* twie now by email and had no reply at all, and the unit is now out of their 12 month warranty. Not too happy about hearing nothing back.

I've checked the wiring and can see no problem, and looking at photos of someone installing the same unit, I have done exactly what they did. The photos could have been of my installation.

I initially thought that the cruise unit was a CAN bus interposer type thing but it looks like it is actually an interposer between the pedal potentiometers and the ECU, so it is actually a lot simpler than I thought. Also, it looks to be a generic unit from somewhere that a lot of people sell. I've not tracked down who exactly sells it.

So, as I miss cruise after having had it, I have bought another kit (I know), so I can put what i hope is a known good unit in and see if it is the unit or the wiring. I suppose I'll have a spare if that unit shows up a wiring problem. As the pedal potentiometer wiring is all pre-wired in the kit I can't really see why my wiring would be at fault.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?
I'm also contemplating building a test jig to see if I can fault find the original unit if it does seem to be a problem, anyone done that?

As a wild idea I was also wondering about building my own cruise unit, at least I could fix that if it went wrong.

Andrew

Ive fitted this cruise control to both our 2.2 puma 110’s and have has no issues (...so far!)
We did a 4230 mile trip to mid Sweden last month and the cruise control was faultless.

The position of the stalk is fine as its easy see and action - the lights on the stalk are easily visible when in use. There is some ‘wiggle factor’ when fitting the stalk for optimal position which helps in the set up.

The limiter was put to the test with the many 20mph zones in towns and villages on the way.
Fitting was reasonably straight forward apart from when I dislodged the break pedal sensors and took a little time to diagnose the issue - once diagnosed it took 2 seconds to fix and job done.

I drive from Cornwall to Aberdeen every month and the cruise control has been wonderful over the last few months, and has been helping with keeping my MPG lower than before fitting, really enhanced my driving experience so it gets full marks from me!

(n.b. - I have not had the pleasure of fitting or testing other designs so am not able to comment on other units and their use) Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
