I have both in my 110 and my 130.
110, thermo top c and airtop 2000. 130 later engine heater, can't remember model but it has seperate water pump for easier installation. An air top off a narrow boat 4500kw from memory. 130 being bigger internal space.( edited to add: Sorry 4.5kw as highlighted in an interesting way below) All have their own dedicated pickup into the tank through the fuel pump/sender housing. Both tdcis Both vehicles run heaters off 2nd battery. Lots of pics.on install on my '130 itch' post on here. I am a little baffled by the need for so much heating capacity in a small area.
Surely one heater, at around 4-5kw, and possibly a similar size backup or spare would be more than sufficient? Don’t you need concentrate on insulation and possibly heat recovery from any ventilation system? |

Watching with interest - specifically thermo top c.
I second the need for insulation. We spent a couple nights in ours prior to any insulation but with a diesel heater, the condensation was a massive issue and the heat dissipation was huge. We've since spent a lot of hours insulating, carpeting and currently rebuilding cabinets/bed etc. Basically it's a very small space, so heating it doesn't take too long, but heat retention is the biggest challenge (we believe anyway).. @v8bob The thermo top c would be an engine preheater (or at least what I am looking for) - designed to stop the engine becoming frozen - From what I gather, you run it for a couple hours prior to starting up and it is supposed to bring the engine up to an ambient temp which makes starting easier and in some cases makes it possible! I've thought of looking into the Chinese ones, but the prices for a used Webasto are so cheap I didn't see the point. Webasto are also well built |

This is exactly what I want to do. Also had the same idea of using the webasto an heat exchanger for showers. Which heat exchanger do you have? I've been looking at the Glind ones. |

I have a Glind ready to go… does anyone have a plumbing diagram of how they fitted this into a coolant system with a pre heater…. @steve_overland on Insta.

Im getting the bits together to put a thermotop c in my 110. I had a fair bit of experience with this model as it was oem fitted in my old 5 series bmw, theyre cheap second hand and easy to work on. I got one from an e53 x5 bmw and was planning on fitting an aftermarket PCB controller however only after it iarrived i realised it didnt come with a water pump as theyre a seperate item on the e53. Looking for a pump, bracket cable and bits i decided to just buy another thermotop c but from a freelander as it was the same price so i now have a spare glowplug and body, plus the freelnder pcb will probably do what the aftermarket one i was going to fit will do - primerialy fire the heater on a switced 12v rather than needing k-line/w-bus.

Put a "12kW" one in the 110 and suffice to say it's almost way too powerful but then I was factoring in Chinese kW. Seems to be very well built and for £69 can't really complain.
Only use it for preheating the 110 when it's been frozen. Kept a separate diesel tank because the 110 will hopefully be going petrol in the near future. A friend of mine had a really smart idea which was a catch can on the return line to the fuel tank. Fuel in at the top, overflow to tank at the top and Webasto feed from the bottom. Three litres and is enough to run it for 48h. Run out and simply fire up the vehicle and the catch can quickly refills. Didn't need to faff with installing secondary pickups into the tank. One thing I would highly recommend is a carbon monoxide alarm if camping in the vehicle just in case the heater exhaust is not able to escape for any reason your alarm wakes you before it’s to late ….. deep snow for example … @steve_overland on Insta.

Very much agree with the above, it’s been known for people to expire due to having a tent BBQ (bringing it inside after use or indoor use) as well for the very same reason with Carbon Monoxide. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
