I too have a genuine LR ladder. when locked or not, I can prise two fingers behind the lock and ease the bowden cable towards me and the lock releases.
I demonstrated this the the LR Dealer, to which he replied "it shouldn't do that" Another job 'half dune' by LR, again. |

That’s rubbish but actually good to know if the key does snap in the lock 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I've been wondering whether the ladder would help me with loading the roof box, rather than flipping the rear seat back down and standing on that. Now I know! Thanks for posting that picture. I don't think JLR would have replaced it, as it was 'user error'

Yep can’t think how I could persuade them to fix it under warranty they would just try and sell me a whole ladder no doubt. Plan b would be cable tie the ladder back in it’s stowed position for the trip then drill the lock out a replace with a better one. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE
