Scotland 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Keswick Green
Mine turned up on ebay last year.

It was stolen in 2017 but reappeared for sale a different colour, different plates and some mods but with enough 'unique features' for me to be 100% certain it was my old Defender.

My local Police force weren't interested as they said it was a matter for the Police force in the area it was being resold.
The Police in that area weren't interested as they said I had no evidence - despite literally 100's of photos showing the 'unique features' and documenting the huge amount of work I'd put into it.
Ebay wouldn't intervene without a Police reference.
I'd asked the seller enough questions to also start raising their suspicions so was getting on dodgy ground.
Insurance didn't appear interested (unless they did look at it without coming back to me).

After seeing what they'd done to it I didn't want it back and insurance had been very fair with their payment but I was a bit Censored ed off that the crooks had seemingly got away with it.

Only good thing is that I now don't keep trawling the ads trying to find it and I can now accept it's gone.

Be careful and always buy the seller, not just the car... Cheers,
Andy...

Interesting but sadly not surprising story Andy.
Glad you found closure so to speak but obviously there’s no justice involved.
It’s important to focus on the positive I suppose.

Had a chat with the recovery yard today and they sent me few photos of the vehicle and its not the same vehicle that was stolen. The vehicle stolen was a 2001 blue td5 hi-cap with a white roof, the photos sent where of a black 110 station wagon with a reg number from 1993. They have had since November and the police have bee all over it.

Drivers seat is missing one of the side windows at the back is missing and it as a winch fitted and alloy wheels, they said to put it back on the road it would need a new Vin number and would be on a Q plate.

So basically not interested in having it back besides it now belongs to the NFU. I used the insurance money from the NFU and bought a 130 single cab pickup.

I have been wondering that myself has it had a false vin plate and a new number stamped into the dumb iron the only way and can think off is the vin number in the ecu or the engine number. i rang the police recovery team the other day but they did not pick up the phone so will try again tomorrow, would be interesting to see if it as a TD5 engine as they where not around in 1993, or if there is any of the original blue paint under the black on the bulkhead or seat box. I did swap the clock in the dash for a TD5 tacho so wonder if that is still fitted.

If its been a johnny's special built up, and the police have had a look over it, i recon its been the engine that's been tracked down to you. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

i watched some old doc about car thefts and ringers in the late 80s and early 90s
it amazes me that it still just as bad was it was back then as it is now. One i still cannot get over, was when they raided some "ford specialist place", They found body panels from a car that had been only been a registered new and would have been on the production line about 4 weeks weeks before the owner bought it. So is suspect its either been the engine that the got the number off. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Cars like that to me should be destroyed if they have been knocked up with stolen parts sadly. How the hell can anyone buy that and use it. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Had a chat with the police recovery team and they did not have access to the official report so non the wiser as to how they managed to determine it used to be mine.

I have seen an article in the paper, some years ago, when a lake in a park was getting drained, for the very 1st time, i think they were going to make it deeper or something like that, Anyway there were a stack load of cars that were dragged out of it, and one was a capri, that had been stolen local to the area, was among them, it had been missing since the 90s, Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
