USB Charger for a Puma - recommendations please
Dear all,

In recent times, I installed a Blue Sea USB charger as part of a double din fascia/ stereo installation on my Td5 (all from Mud). I found the installation easy and I have been very pleased with the results.

I now have a Puma and I want to keep the original fascia in place (with the original stereo) and am looking at installing a USB charger where the cigarette lighter is.

Can anyone recommend a USB socket to go into the cigarette lighter position on a Puma please?

I don't want to rely upon using one of the USB chargers that can be used in a cigarette lighter socket.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
Kind Regards

Neil

Hi.

Why would you want to lose the cigarette lighter and restrict future options, who knows when you may need that compressor/whatever? And with no easy way to the battery…?

I added a MUD usb into a spare placement in the main dash, plus 2 more.. subtle ones.

One into the MUD glove box, and a further one on the left of the dash on the shelf for passengers to use..

So you really want all those wires hanging around also when driving?

Food for thought..

Ali express also.. cheap as chips for the side 2…

Good luck

I have fitted numerous Blue Sea USB sockets to all the Pumas I’ve had, however they don’t fit properly and always need approx 1mm turned off the outer diameter on a lathe to achieve the perfect factory fit in the Puma dash cutout. I can do this for you if you like, it only takes a minute or so on my Myford.

The Mobile Centre one does actually look pretty good, but I’ve had that many Blue sea ones fitted to all the vehicles and also boats I’ve owned in the past ten years I think I’ll stick to them!

Dear all,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. It is much appreciated.

Whilst I have undertaken a number of modifications in the past on series vehicles and various Defenders, I am finding the Puma is a slightly different beast and i am keen to learn from the experience of others (as always).

I'll have a ponder on what to do next.

Thanks again.
Kind Regards

Neil

If you want to charge a newish smartphone then you will want a fast charging usb adapter so check the specifications before you buy.

I fitted one of these to my truck a couple of weeks ago. It supports both of the latest fast charge standards, is also compatible with older usb standards, and with the plastic cap on it blends into the background so doesn't look out of place.

It’s a bit of a pig to remove the old cigar lighter. Mine really didn’t want to move so things got a little gash…

For the last 2 years I've had one of these via ebay "Baseus 65W Car Charger USB Type-C QC 4.0 Fast Charging Cigaretter Adapter Kit" (item number eBay Item No. 392824357824). Two types uf USB catered for and tells you the battery voltage too. I need to buy another fur the wife's car. It works well. Cheers, Guy.
