Gearbox Fault L663 Defender 110 D300

On Saturday morning my 2022 Defender 110 D300 came up with a gearbox fault whilst driving down a country lane. When I stopped the gearbox wouldn’t shift into park and displayed a fault on the dash and the gear shifter lights were not illuminating.
It wouldn’t shift into drive or reverse and I tried locking it and unlocking etc.

I checked all of the relevant fuses, which all looked ok and the fault remained.

I called LR assist and the AA technician was unable to clear the fault code, so the vehicle was recovered to the Norwich LR Dealership.

3 days later LR assist are still sorting out a loan vehicle and when I spoke to Inchscape Norwich dealership this morning, they said it would be 4-6 weeks before they could look at it! All rather disappointing!

That's not good, but it's the first gearbox failure l have heard about on a new Defender.

So hopefully a one-off and not something that will become more widespread.
The ZF 8 speed transmission is a tried and tested unit and has a very good reputation.

My experience with local dealerships in my area is they are nearly always fully booked for at least 6 weeks ahead. This leads to inevitable customer dissatisfaction. I can't see it getting any better either. In Austria when been abroad in winter I have just rocked up at dealerships and they have then prioritised to get me out within the day if spares are in stock or within a couple of days if they have had to order. Nio complaints at all. 2020 Defender 110 SE 240D: Fuji White.

So what's happened in the U.K. then. Were the dealers here always this poor?

I don’t know why it’s happened…but I bought my first Land Rover product in 1981.
The dealers were excellent to be fair. The decline has been long and gradual.

I bought my last Land Rover product in 2023… I’m never buying another one… based on dealers attitude. It’s a shame. Four of my family work for JLR.

We also buy BMW and the two dealers we use make buying and visiting a pleasure.
I now hate going to Land Rover. They just don’t give a damn.
