I think you have answered your own question already....
"I've had wildly different estimates for paintwork recently". There is no such thing as a set rate. And there will be a huge array of prices. I'd try and get a local recommendation or at least want to see some of their work. Expensive by no means guarantees the best quality. |

I paid in the region of £400 to get the rear door/set of hinges painted / hung and the end panels (up to the capping) on the rear of the landy 1999 Defender TD5 110

Great, thanks John, that's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for, just a guide.
I had in mind that a new door might be £300 to £500 and maybe the roof about £800-£1000, but i've no experience of bodywork costs, nor do i know of someone that'll do a decent job. There are several 'bodyshops' near me, but most seem to only deal with modern stuff / insurance claims etc or classic restorers that prefer full body resprays. Cheers, Matt. |

What colour is it? that will change the price as well.
Do you just want them painted and fitting yourself? |

I’m no expert, but I imagine the majority of the cost will be preparation - which I imagine would be the differentiator in terms of the quality of the finish.
I had my roof repainted due to damage a few years ago and that was circa £500. That included removal and refitting of the alpine lights (new seals). It still looks as good as new - arguably the best panel on the Defender! I had my one piece sills repainted off the vehicle and that was about £80. I’ve just had a quote for the new door to be prepared and repainted off the vehicle - £300. It does initially appear expensive but when you consider the labour costs, and the quality of the finish, I don’t think it’s too bad. |

Hi, it’s Monte Carlo, pretty rare I think and probably as bad as silver to match (read somewhere that silver was a nightmare) Ideally them fit but if I could do it myself then I would. No experience though. |

I think it sounds reasonable to be honest, especially if it’s a half decent job. I’d be glad to pay that I think. Thank you so much for replying. Cheers, Matt. |

No problem - good luck 👍
I think the greatest challenge will be finding a paint shop that you are happy with. But once you’ve found one, it’s just a matter of saving up and/or justifying the business case to the purse string holder… |

Paint and consumables like everything else has climbed and climbed in price. I had to get some and it was £98 a litre and then the thinner and hardener on top of that.
I would like to think for two NEW doors with good skins they’d be asking around £350 |

I paid £450 for the painting of four doors, windscreen brackets and two c-pillar panels just over a year ago now. Not a bad price IMO. |
