After a run apply the brakes twice (not really hard and make sure its safe to do so) if the brake pedal is a lot harder or becomes harder to press at a higher level than the first application there could be a front wheel bearing issue.

Hi AndrewS,
Thanks for that tip I will take her out later and try what you suggested, althrough I don't recall the pedal ever being harder to push at any time. if it is a front wheel bearing issue and it certainly sounds like it could be, is it a big job (expensive) to fix on the Defender. Funny thing is, I had this "Hard pedal" problem sometimes on my 08 Disco first thing in the mornings, but this apparently was for for another reason, but that seems to have been sorted by LRA is week, on the advice of the guys over on the disco3 forum. If it's a td5 it will cost more than a 300tdi as the bearings are more complcated to do.
My advice to you is don't go to land rover but find a good independent landrover garage as they won't con you by just doing the work but may check to find it's sometime simple and sort it out for you without just chucking some new bearings on. Good luck Defenders are like tea bags they let the water flow though. |

Hi Richo,
Thanks for the advice, in fact we do use a really good independent Landrover man over in Rushden. I plan to run over to see him in a day or two so he can have a quick look, or I could always run it over to Nene where we bought it from. Cheers P.S the wife liked your teabag signature, she's always complaining about having to wear flippers, I just tell her it's a Landrover thing. I have used Rick Mason for over 12yrs and he is very good. Quite convenient as when the 90 is in I can look out my bedroom window to see if he has finished it |

AndrewS was correct It seems like it is a front off side wheel bearing which is causing the problem.
I'ts booked into Rick Mason's place at Rusden next week, they say it sould be a couple of hours job. Thanks all MY02 Defender 110 CSW air con, electric windows, privacy glass, traction control, abs,tow pack, parking sensors, rai, special rear seat conversion. |
