Fuel Tank Guard/Cradle
Potentially an incredibly stupid question.... but here goes!

I can't get access to my fuel breather on my 2011 90 and I'm considering drastic action.

If I buy one of these replacement cradles / guards:

https://yrmit.co.uk/product/fuel-tank-guar...5-onwards/

https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/da6538-d...inium.html

https://maltings4x4store.co.uk/products/br...a6538.html

Is it just simply a case of cutting out the old guard, wriggling the tank down, replacing the breather, puhsing the tank back, then bolting one of these on underneath?

After much Censored around, I'm tempted to pay to get it done. But the labour costs are far higher than buying one of these, plus the added benefit of being able to access the tank again if needed.

What are peoples views? Will this work? 2011 CSW XS 90

I got the YRM one and did it myself. The sticky thread is the resource I followed, it was awkward but not too bad. You will need some foam to put between the tank and the YRM guard, I butchered MrsMinch’s old yoga mat 👍 2.4TDCI 90 - everyday brilliance

quite a few options on this.

bit more work if you have a towbar fitted.

the easy way its to support the tank with ratchet strap cut and remove the old tank support.

lower down a bit so you dont break the pipes old pip off and new one on.

if you us an aftermarket alloy tank guard you can simply bolt it on and off you go.

std ones ned paint and wax before fitting as the paint is wafer thin.

double check that it lines up 1st as a lot of them dont fit and the rear fixing points have a thread that will take a nut...

I have the Yrm item fitted, it replaces the current cradle, I am not sure looking at the maltings one if it's just a guard or a cradle. The Yrm fitting guide is useful too.

Went with the Britpart option from Maltings. It is technically a guard, rather than a cradle but should have worked.

However, when I offered it up, it fouled on the tow bar assembly, I wasn’t happy how far it would have pushed the anti-roll bar down, and I’m not convinced on the method of fixing.

So I have ordered the YRM option and will let you know how I get on.

Maltings have been a bit cheeky and are charging a 10% fee to return the item, plus I pay for the shipping.

The shipping is fair enough; happy to pay for shipping to and from me, but not happy with a 10% charge too.

Ultimately, they’re a largely online business, selling Britpart stuff that is famously hit or miss (and has no available instructions / dimensions), so feels a bit unfair.

Never mind, won’t use them again and yet another instance of being burnt by Britpart! 2011 CSW XS 90
