You are correct it should not come on in 3 months or every 1k miles if you are doing a mix of journeys and not just short ones.
The oil service message should only come on for 3 reasons. 1. It has been 12 months since the counter has been reset. 2 it has been 12,000 miles / 20,000 kilometres since the counter has been reset. 3. The ECU has calculated the oil may be diluted by 7% of diesel due to active DPF regeneration cycles. This is based on miles traveled, style of driving ( lots of short journeys etc) and number of regenerations. This is denoted in the workshop manual https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic74776...il+service So if yours has come on after 3 months and 1k miles are you sure the counter reset procedure was undertaken and worked when you last did an oil change ? Else your vehicle is doing a great deal of active regens which might indicate an issue with your DPF differential pressure sensor, the pipes between it and the DPF, wiring and connector to the DPF differential pressure sensor, or a partially blocked DPF. Have you had any DPF lights illuminate on the instrument cluster ? |

Thanks Ian
Oil service light was reset and no DPF light. I’ve not noticed the DPF regen being more frequent either. Could still be an area to investigate though. Appreciate your help Chris |

A little while ago I posted a request on the Nanocom forum, in effect I asked if they could enable a facility on the Nanocom to show the status of the 3 things that trigger the oil service light. I.e how may days etc since last reset, how many miles/km’s since reset and the calculated oil dilution.
So far they have not provided this capability but that data must reside somewhere in the ECU and would really help with issues such as yours. Ps For several years I have used millers ecomax each time I fill up and have not had any issues so far re the oil service message coming up. |

Thanks Ian. The fact that you also use Millers with no issues is good intel for me.
Would have been really good to get this on Nanocom. |

Lots of us use Millers and have been doing for years without issue, so that can definitely be discounted. Darren
