Hello everybody,
My Defender needs some TLC and I brought it for an estimate of the work and this is it... Any thoughts would be very much appreciated, the garage I never used but it came with a good reference and it specialises in Land Rovers: Many thanks Alex Click image to enlarge http://instagram.com/h4vou/ |

Hello mustafasoleiman
It's a fair amount of work, and what appears to be reasonable timings against the bigger aspects. For an Independent at £100 / Hr they are possibly towards the upper end of the scale, but if good and in or close to London, then probably they're on the money. Land Rover typically will be between £120 - £180 / Hr for Defender work. So overall at 25% Parts / 75% Labour, again this looks to be fairly typical. As it's 'serious money' maybe get a like for like quote... Good Luck SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

I'm one who doesn't/can no longer carry out my own maintenance, I use a cheap'n'cheerful Indie for servicing etc. when I'm in the UK, for emergencies over here I'm forced to use the main dealer in Toulon (who, funnily enough, DOES have time for an old truck, and not just brand new blinged-up JLRs).
But those prices are more French main dealer than UK Indie! As suggested, get other quotes... Peter |

I also had problems with windscreen frame corrosion. The garage advised me that they could just prepare and repaint but the rust would just return and it would need redoing in another 3-4 years.
As this was the 3rd time in 8 years (!) that it had needed to be done, I went for a new frame and had it properly prepared. Just something to consider. I'd be interested in others' opinions too. |
