Pinout above is for the rear screen (that threw me)
Correct pinout for front screen factory with factory colours: 1 Trigger to Relay Pink/Orange [KO] 2 Illumination Red/Orange [RO] 3 not used 4 Ground Black [B] 5 Telltale LED in switch Purple/Slate [PS] So I think your loose Green is the telltale output And the Red/Orange is the trigger input to the relay Does your switch have only the two terminals? Sorry you do say it is illuminated. Is it a Defender switch (looks like it is)?

Well if I was fully awake I would know that Defender rockers aren't illuminated.
Ignoring the illumination and tell tale for a mo, you need to put the red/orange to one of the switch round pins and a ground wire to the other. This will wire up the ground signal trigger for the timer unit. Then as you probably don't have night-time illumination on that switch but you do have a tell tale... using the tabs on the side: green to one tab, and another ground to the other. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thanks, that sounds correct from what I could figure out too. My switch a is "custom build" switch. I have it back lit with the headlights on so I can see it at night so the green trigger won't be needed (unless I set up a warning light somewhere else on the dash). Oragne /red and ground to the momentary switch.
Will give it a go tomorrow and update once I have it worked out. Appreciate the help! Sorry yes orange/red and ground to the round pins (not red/orange).
Not confusing at all that they have used red and orange both ways round! This is assuming that the timer is ground triggered. What's the part number on the orange timer unit? 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

One quick thought - is your custom backlight quite bright?
If so you could have a dimmed version as illumination and use full brightness for telltale. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Okay, update as promised, been a while but got silly busy and could not get to completing the wiring. The green wire is "power" to the relay, the orange is the power to the light of the switch (telltale). The other pole on the bcak of the switch to ground as suggested. All works as it should with my modified momentray switch. Will finish full install later today. Picture is of a test prior to install with voly meter showing power to iwndscreen spade connectors and all hooked up as described.
Thank you everyone for your support and assisance. Now to finish off that Northern Harvest Whisky and give my wife the kitchen counter back.

I've fitted a lightbar and used a Mud switch (4 pins) to replace the basic switch that came with the loom, Pin 2 on the Mud switch is for the green backlight, for this I've tied into the Red/Orange of an adjacent switch Click image to enlarge The green light is intermittent on the Mud switch but is consistent on the one I've tied into, everything else works perfectly. Just wondering if anyone has had similar experience with Mud switches. I've checked with a meter and getting a consistent 12+V at the spade terminal, when the lights are on.
