Then I would assume that the supplier would swap it, but you would be responsible for the labour.
If the garage supplied and fitted it, then they presumably would be responsible for all of it, should the part fail prematurely, but then the part would have cost more to start with as they would put a mark up on it and quite possibly would have chosen a different (more expensive, maybe) supplier. Generally speaking the person or business supplying labour is responsible for just that, labour, unless they supply and fit a part, in which case then they take responsibility for that too. Hope this helps. |

Don’t really see why I should pay labour for something that’s under warranty and the supplier was given the opportunity to take the box out but couldn’t do it
So was left to me to get sorted The supplier has only given £45 ph whilst the garage I use charge £90 ph but the supplier doesn’t think it’s a problem |

This will come down to law and the details of the contract between you and the vendor. In the first instance have a good read of the terms and conditions of sale and then talk to the citizens advice Bureau to understand if you have a valid claim against the vendor.
I think markbrown sums it up well, most contracts just cover the equipment and not the costs of removal if the part is faulty and needs fixing/ replacing under warranty. If the garage sourced the equipment and fitted it then the onus would be on them to resolve the issue at no cost to you. But as you supplied the parts unfortunately that’s not the case. |

If I have read this correctly, the supplier has offered/paid £45/hr towards the fitting/removal?
My understanding is that MarkBrown and Ianh are correct, the supplier is more often that not, responsible for the part, not the labour. Some will choose to offer a gesture of goodwill if the fault is theirs, and it sounds as though they have already done so. Whether £45/hr is less or more than the going rate in your area I don't know, but I would personally be grateful that they had offered anything. I have only once had a supplier offer to pay labour for the removal and fitting of a faulty part, and that was only after I had already incurred significant time and expense replacing said part once already. 1985 127 V8 Build Thread Series 2 109" Series 1 80" |

Fair enough comments plus they will already have lost more than £800 by my garage not dealing with them anymore

You’re lucky they’re offering you anything on the labour tbh if you’ve supplied the parts that’s a goodwill gesture on them.
When you get a labour rate for a warranty on parts as a garage you never get the full rate, the parts manufacturer - not supplier decides, it doesn’t matter what your rate is. They won’t get reimbursed until the faulty part has been inspected for labour claim and if it’s an expensive part a lot of the time they’ll try and wriggle out of it, if they can. If you spend a lot of money with the retailer they will sometimes pay it as a goodwill gesture out of their pocket. There are so many poor quality or counterfeit parts about now I offer no warranty on customer supplied products and full if I supply them because I’m covered by the supplier. |
