127 rapier
Whilst out and about I've spotted a 127 rapier, clearly not in use. The MOT history shows it to have been last mot'd about 7 years ago. I'd imagine that it's in a bad way underneath, due to where it's parked. I believe that they were V8's originally ( Google says, I've no idea ) but history shows it to be diesel. Before I go an ask if it could be for sale, would anyone like to share their thoughts?

I've always wanted a 127/130, I don't know what for, but when I saw this I just thought ' wow, cool'. Best hope would be that it's a TDI conversion I guess, but who knows!

Before today I'd never seen one, most of the 130's seem to be hi caps or ex-utility body's. I'm ashamed to say I thought it might have been a one off, or maybe an Australian perentie.

Any information welcome. Thanks.

127 Rapier…
They were built with V8s
They made about 220 right hand drive ones.
Foleys bought many from the mod and turned them into campers or gun busses.
They were RAF, as anti aircraft missile support. So generally they were better condition and lower mileage.
If diesel they have been converted.

Anything else you want to know?

So they're quite rare then!
Would you know what the back body is made of?
Aluminium presumably?
I'm guessing that it would be worth quite a bit compared to an ordinary 90/110.

Yes, the back is aluminium.
Remarkably they are not expensive.
I would say a decent running one is about 10k.
I have seen 2 on ebay, at about that in the past 5 years.
My view is an original one is rare, and most desirable.
Converted ones can be for sale for any amount.
Original ones are big and not particularly practical, due to height.
The last ones had hard top cabs and separate canvas topped backs, so you could run them standard height with no covers/frame on the back.
Or, you could easily change it to a hard top cab.

Foleys have got a LHD one for sale on ebay at 20k

So, potentially a rotten one with the wrong engine isn't worth much more than than a rotten 90/110.

With a truck cab and potentially a TDI it could be a quite pick up I guess.

Perhaps I'll go and see the owner and ask.

Thank you.
