Came home to this
Away for a few days and came home to this. The expansion tank in the attic, the ball coack must have stuck, water kept coming into the tank and there is a leak at the fitting to the overflow pipe. All this meant that the overflow worked...into the attic. Found out from the drips into the kitchen! Busy evening !Plumber coming.

It never rains, but it pours……..

Sorry to hear that Spud.

There was a case in Cornwall a number of years ago where the loft mounted hot water tank burst over night and badly scolded the person in the bed below.

I deliberately put no insulation below the attic tanks but in this case the water travelled along the plaster board and beneath the joists. Luckily we have a crack in the ceiling which is how we knew we had a problem by the drips! Anyway the plumber landed at 8.30am this morning so we are sorted. Just getting things dried out up there now!! Unlike problems with modern cars it was easily found Very Happy and remedied Mr. Green 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Update. Well the plumber landed at 8.30 this morning. Issue sorted with the tank.
Now it is just drying out.
The cost of the plumber was ....€65 (£57). This included the call out, replacing the ballcock and the joint for the overflow pipe on the tank. He called in on the way to another job. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Very decent price! Sounds like the damage was reasonably controlled. I rented out a house in the UK, when the whole attic tank solution started leaking I had it all changed out to a combi hot water/heater unit with a pressure vessels and hot water on mains pressure. All worked out fine for many years then sold the house.

Here in France it's all electric, more expensive (although electricity is cheaper in France) but you loose all the gas/boiler related cost which easily adds up to euro 1000 a year excl any breakdown or depreciation. We also have a woodpellet burner which is relatively cheap heat.
